Cora's Full Story

MISSING: The Mystery of Cora, the "Independent Queen" – Community Rallies as Search Expands

9th April 2026

A MESSAGE OF HOPE & A SPECIAL DATE COMING UP

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has reached out with kind words, questions, and support recently. It really does mean the world.

Many people have been asking if I still believe Cora is out there... and the honest answer is YES

I truly believe she is safe somewhere. Whether she is being looked after by someone who isn't on social media and not seen the posters (around the area's, where I've postered or leafleted). Or she's found a quiet place to rest, I hold onto the faith that she is okay and will find her way back to us one day.

And as we keep searching, there is a very special date coming up very soon...

 CORA’S 7TH BIRTHDAY IS ON MAY 5TH 2026!

My beautiful girl is turning another year older. It breaks my heart to think she won't be here to celebrate with us, but it also gives us another reason to keep shining that light and hoping for a miracle.

Please, if you see her, or think you might have seen her, please do not chase, she is timid. Just call me immediately on 07403 134292.

We are still looking, we are still hoping, and we will never give up.

Thank you for standing with us.

One month on, my beloved tabby's disappearance from Leigh sparks heartfelt plea amidst unique backstory

A determined search continues for Cora, a distinctive white, brown and black tabby cat with white paws and a black splodge on her back left leg, who vanished from her home in Higher Folds, Leigh, on Monday, February 16th, at 7 AM (for a second time). One month into the frantic search, her owner, Darren, alongside a rapidly growing community of supporters, is making an urgent appeal for information, as the investigation expands across Wigan mainly but also afar.

The search, initially focused on Higher Folds and surrounding Leigh areas, has now significantly broadened to include Bickershaw, Atherton, Hindley, and most surrounding areas within Wigan and beyond. Thousands of social media shares have amplified Cora’s plight, yet surprisingly, there have been no confirmed sightings. This puzzling lack of leads has led to growing concern that Cora may have been taken in by someone, our even travelled afar.

A Cat with a Compelling Backstory

Cora, described as a "very independent girl" and "quite the character," has a history that paints a vivid picture of her strong-willed personality. Approximately four years ago, she "moved out" and adopted an elderly lady as her new owner, where she enjoyed a happy life as the sole feline companion and her brother Caden visiting occasionally and leaving behind her other brother Clayton (as at the time up until 2 years ago he was an indoor cat).

Tragically, after the passing of her adopted owner, Cora returned to Darren’s home. However, she struggled to adapt to life with her other brother, Clayton, missing her previous "sole queen" status. Attempts were made to rehome her with a close friend and her young son, where she initially seemed settled. Yet, Cora, with her clear desire to return to the Ince area (or so I believe) where she spent her first six years, "managed to put her escape plan into action" from her new temporary home again.

Cora, “quite the character”, had not long previously escaped in January and was missing for 4 weeks when we even had snow, so she’s a definite “survivor". She was found successfully on Ledgard Avenue – whether she hitched a lift or wandered there, we don’t know. But because of her first escape and being captured on the route to Ince, it makes me believe she was and is trying to get back here.

Darren confirms, we still don't know the full story this time, she could be anywhere for all I know, but he relays heavily on social media if she is far away, and her chip being scanned successfully to be reunited. The minute Cora is scanned anywhere, he will immediately receive an SMS alert because he pays for a subscription service, so he'll get notified the instant she is checked.

Darren clarifies, "Cora didn't go missing from his home, but once she's found, she will be coming straight back to him permanently. We'll be making sure she and Clayton learn to get along properly this time around, because it's clear where her heart truly wants to be."

A Community's Plea: Check Your Outbuildings

With the continued cold weather and recent storms, a critical part of the appeal urges residents in the expanded search areas to thoroughly check sheds, garages, outbuildings, under cars and caravans. "She might be TIMED, frightened and hiding, seeking warmth and shelter," states Darren.

There is also a significant concern for Cora's welfare if she is found unwell. Darren emphasizes, "If you see Cora and she appears unwell, please, take her to a vet immediately. She is insured, and our only concern is her safe return home."

A Direct Appeal to the Public

The absence of sightings despite widespread sharing suggests a difficult truth: someone may have taken Cora in, or she's travelled afar. Darren makes a heartfelt plea, understanding that if someone has taken her in, intentions can be good, but reiterating the family's deep longing for her return.

"If you have taken Cora into your home, or know someone who has, please reach out to us," Darren implores. "There will be no judgment, just immense gratitude for her safe return. We understand situations can be complicated, but our main goal is to have Cora back with us."

He adds, "Please remember, Cora is easily identifiable (through her gentle face patting and distinctive markings) and If she has come into your care, you'll know her."
